SUBJECT: Winter Storm Follow Up and Pay Your HOA Dues

March 1, 2021

HOA NEWS

Dear Estates of Forest Creek Residents,

Hopefully, you survived the recent winter storm without property damage.  However, if you do have damage, please use caution when hiring someone based on recommendations posted on social media.  You can help protect yourself by making sure the person making the recommendation has had first hand experience with the business.  If you have personal experience with a plumber, electrician, pool repair, contractor or other business you would like to make a recommendation to your neighbors, you may post that information on our Facebook page so neighbors can contact you for more information.

I want to express a big thank you to John Caldwell, our HOA Facilities volunteer, who helps maintain our extensive sprinkler system. John volunteered to help any EFC resident who needed help turning off their water at the main.  He assisted six residents who needed help doing this. This is an example of how our volunteer HOA Board tries to serve our residents.  Below is a picture of the tool John used to turn off the water main.  Compare that tool to the tiny gold key I had at my house!  John said he added an extra black piece to give him more leverage to turn those sticky valves!

I’d like to call attention to how you can use our website at www.efchoa.com.  Almost 90% of our 436 residents have registered on our website, but only 20% have recently verified their contact information is still correct.  I urge you to keep your contact information current and provide the HOA with cell number(s) and emergency contact information.  You can choose to keep this information private and not publish it in our online directory, but it gives us a way to contact you in case a neighbor suspects an emergency on your property.  When neighbors alert the HOA, we attempt to alert you by calling and texting the cell number(s) and emergency contact listed in your website account.  Last week, I received a number of calls from concerned neighbors who noticed water leaks on adjacent properties and we attempted to contact those residents. All Estates of Forest Creek residents, regardless of if they are an HOA member or not, can create a resident account on our website.

If you are interested in learning more about our HOA or bringing concerns to the Board, please join us for our next Zoom Board Meeting, tomorrow Tuesday, March 2nd at 7 pm. Register HERE for the link. This Board Meeting is open to all residents - even if you aren’t a 2021 HOA Member yet.  Of course, we hope you will join the HOA and help us keep our neighborhood strong and attractive!

Feel free to email me at president@efchoa.com if you have suggestions for our HOA or you are interested in getting more involved with our community. The more volunteers we have the more we can do to serve our community and keep it strong!

With all the challenges of 2020 - health, jobs, school, isolation from family and friends and more, we hope your connections within our Estates of Forest Creek community have been a blessing to you.

A Message from Your HOA Membership Director

Our neighborhood was selected aa Platinum Level, Best Neighborhoods in Plano Neighborhood since 2017! AND Platinum is the highest level of recognition a neighborhood can receive. We are so proud of what our residents contribute day in and day out. This recognition shows our neighborhood has gone above and beyond to create a united community that is Beautiful, Engaged, Safe, and Thriving - BEST!

We, The Estates of Forest Creek HOA Board have worked diligently with you every year for this prestigious honor. We could NOT have done it without your investment in our neighborhood through your HOA dues! 2020 was such a different and challenging year in many ways, our normal HOA activities were disrupted, and seasonal social events that were usually organized by HOA unfortunately didn't take place because we put our members' health and safety as top priority. However we managed to reach out and connect with our members in many creative new ways that we explored, such as: Tiff's Treats delivered to high school senior graduates in our neighborhood recognizing their hard work and achievement when they were not able to have a normal graduation ceremony or celebration; Providing free shredding service to members at Mathew's Elementary School Parking lot with well planned driving routes and social distancing assistances provided by HOA board members/volunteers; Collecting donations to the Mayor's Peanut Butter Drive to help the needy; Continuing our beautification small projects wherever needed in our neighborhood; Promoting healthier lifestyle to members by encouraging their participation of community competition events like "Fall into Fitness", etc...

2020 experience was not pleasant at all, but it is also reminding us that our true work is to: look after each other, and be of benefit of each other, like families, like neighbors. It will be a new beginning in 2021 that we all look forward to.

Thank you for supporting your HOA and being part of our BEST NEIGHBORHOOD in 2021!

Get Answers to Your Storm Recovery Questions in One Place

Recovering from disaster events like the winter storm can be complicated. Download this FEMA resource checklist to help you through the process, then visit the new Plano Recovers website for helpful information and resources.

Watch Your City Utility Bill for a 2,000 Gallon Water Credit

The City will provide an automatic 2,000 gallon credit to all residential customers to offset water use for dripping faucets during the winter storm. There is no need to call or file paperwork to receive this credit. The credit will be automatically applied to your March 2021 water bill.

Did You Have a Leak?

Residents can also apply for a leak credit for 100% of the residential water used due to a leak caused by the February 2021 winter storm. You must repair the leak before filing for a leak credit on your water bill. Save your repair receipts.

After making repairs, submit proof of repair including the date it was repaired. The City will wait one billing period to ensure a leak-free meter reading, then will apply the credit to your account. You will see the credit on your bill after it is applied.

Was Your Pool Damaged During the Freeze?

If your pool equipment sustained damage, follow these tips to prevent algae from growing and mosquitoes from breeding:

  • Maintain chlorine levels in the pool.
  • Brush the sides and bottom of the pool a few times a day or use a robotic cleaner.
  • Apply mosquito dunks. Purchase these at your local home improvement store. Keep in mind, you will need to remove these once your pool is back in order. Read the label for proper use and disposal.
  • As a last resort, drain the pool until repairs can take place. If you drain the water to an alley, make sure it is free of chemicals. Otherwise, send the water to the sanitary sewer.
Dispose of Water-Damaged Demolition or Construction Materials

If you experienced home damage from the winter storm, you may need to dispose of items like carpet and pads, sheetrock, tile and wood flooring, pipes, bathroom vanities and more.

Bulky Waste Collection

  • One free 10 foot x 4 foot x 4 foot manageable pile per month (see the schedule or call if you are in the pilot area)
  • Larger piles can be scheduled as a Special Paid Collection. There is no limit to how often you can order this service and the fees are added to your City of Plano water bill.

In both instances above, we bring our equipment to pick up these piles at your collection point.

If possible, let your contractor haul off construction debris.
