SUBJECT: March HOA Newsletter: A message from our new President, Membership and so much more

March 1, 2024

FROM THE BOARD
Message from Our New President

Hello! I am thrilled to be serving as President of the Estates of Forest Creek HOA.  I grew up in Richardson, my husband, Michael, grew up in Philadelphia and we met while working in New York City.  We started our family in NYC with our daughter, Letta, and our son, Gray.  It didn’t take long to determine two young kids and two demanding careers in New York City was too much.  We moved to Plano in 2015 to be closer to my family and scoured towns and neighborhoods looking for our “spot”.  We looked everywhere from Parker to Prosper trying to find something that checked all the boxes.

After we welcomed our third kid, Rhett, we moved into the neighborhood in April of 2017, not expecting to call the house on Old Manse Court our forever home.  We had only signed a one year lease and life was pretty unsettled with a newborn and two preschoolers.

But not long after we moved in, it became clear to me and Michael we had most definitely found our spot.  We loved our cul-de-sac. We loved walking to the duck pond and the library. We loved driving into the neighborhood crossing the bridge and seeing all the mature trees and well kept homes.  We also loved that Estates of Forest Creek seemed like a hidden gem among some other cookie cutter neighborhoods in the area (not to mention our neighbors, we have absolutely won the neighbor lottery!).  There is something special about our neighborhood and we knew we wanted to raise our family here.

After five long years of leasing, we purchased our home in 2021 and have recently completed a lengthy renovation (like I mentioned above, I have great neighbors who endured a lot of construction traffic!).  The Tuscano Family is here to stay.

As President of our HOA, I have very big shoes to fill.  Kathie Kankel has served tirelessly in the role for years and has made sure every t is crossed and i is dotted.  I will very likely fall short in comparison.  That said, I have an incredible Board of dedicated and talented neighbors who share the same gratitude I have for this neighborhood.  We are all committed to ensuring Estates of Forest Creek will remain a beautiful, peaceful and engaged neighborhood.

As you are renewing your membership and or considering joining, I’d like to ask you to please make a donation to the Beautification Fund.  We are presently working to secure a grant from the City of Plano that when combined with your donations to the Beautification Fund, will allow us to make substantial and sustainable improvements to our entryways and medians. Your dues cover our operating expenses and maintenance of our current irrigation system and landscaping, but the Beautification Fund donations on the other hand, go toward improving and enhancing what is already there.

In addition to my role as President of EFC HOA, I also serve on the Board of Trivium Academy and manage The Retreat at Tall Tree, our vacation rental in East Texas.  My primary job though is attempting to keep up with our three kids and driving them to what feels like five practices a night.  All of this to say, I am busy, but I want to hear from you and I want to do what’s best for our neighborhood.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns or to simply introduce yourself!

Email is great, but text is always better.

I’m grateful to be serving our neighborhood!

CRIME WATCH NEWS
Personal Safety Presentation and More ...

We have planned a Personal Safety Presentation for April 6 at the Hardy Room next to Davis Library, details coming soon via an Evite.

We are also looking at having another presentation, to be held late summer, early fall regarding Property Safety.

I have personally attended the Property Safety Presentation, it is very informative and eye opening.  I have not attended the Personal  Safety Presentation, but know some who have that have given it high accolades.

If you have a Ring Doorbell, the notifications you receive are a great indicator of how important it is to have your property as secure as you can to deter criminal activity.  Personal Safety is extremely important for you as well as your family, informed allows us to be more aware and better able to react should an occasion arise.

Look for more information regarding these presentations as the time draws closer.

City Council and Planning & Zoning Meetings Relocate April 1 to Davis Library

Renovations of the Senator Florence Shapiro Council Chambers begin Monday, April 1. The Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council meetings will be at Davis Library, 7501 Independence Parkway, during construction.

If you visit the Municipal Center, prepare for changes to parking beginning Monday, March 18 through the end of the project. A portion of the parking lot across the street and adjacent to the Post Office will be used by the general contractor. While we expect the impact to be minimal, there will be days when the parking lot is more heavily used, so please plan accordingly.

Avoid Extra Fees When Paying Your Water Bill

Before you Google search “pay my Plano water bill,” be aware the links that pop up may not be the City of Plano payment portal. Some residents have paid extra fees ($4-$8) when paying through these misleading non-City sites.

The City of Plano site never charges a convenience fee to pay your water bill online. Always look twice before you pay through any online site.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION
Calling all Artists and Woodworkers: Work on a slice of History

Are you a qualified woodworker or artist who would like to create a unique piece of art out of wood from the Quadricentennial Bur Oak in Bob Woodruff Park South, North Texas's largest and oldest tree? The beloved tree fell during a thunderstorm last October.

The Quadricentennial Bur Oak stood 90-feet high. Arborists believe the giant oak was more than four centuries old and may have been here when the U.S. Constitution was signed in 1787.

The fallen tree has been cut into 5-foot sections ranging in diameter from four to 50 feet. Selected artists and woodworkers will be able to sell, donate or keep the finished product.

Rules for Participation:

  • Only residents living in North Texas are eligible.
  • Complete the online application by Sunday, March 24:
  • Artist must provide examples of previous work with a drawing or an example of the proposed finished product

Plano Urban Forester Marc Beaudoing said, "Plano’s old Bur Oak tree withstood the test of time despite the elements.

“We would like to thank our community partners for assisting us in putting this call for artists together and look forward to repurposing this tree’s legacy into beautiful works of art with the help of local artisans and woodworkers,” Beaudoing said.

Prepare for Temporary Change to the Drinking Water

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is temporarily changing the disinfectant used across the water system for 28 days. From Monday, March 4 through Monday, April 1, Chlorine levels remain the same, but no ammonia is added. Your drinking water is safe and meets all regulatory and quality standards.

If you notice a slight change in your water's smell or taste:

  • Fill a pitcher of water and place it in your fridge overnight. This allows the disinfectant to dissipate.
  • Add a slice of cucumber, lemon, lime or orange to a glass of water for a few hours to improve the taste.
  • Install a filter on your kitchen faucet.
  • Add a crushed 1,000 mg vitamin C tablet to bath water, if your skin is sensitive.

Read how the disinfectant change works.
